Santa Maria del Pi church
Tourist to the city of Barcelona will undoubtedly find many places of tourist attraction, but few of them hold the same grandeur than that of the Santa Maria del Pi church. This fourteenth century Catholic Christian church, dedicated to Virgin Mary, is located at the junction of three small squares of the city and boasts of a Gothic style of architecture.
Those who are familiar with the Spanish language will know that the term `Pi’ refers to pine trees. This church derives the `Pi’ in its name because of the fact that once upon a time a pine tree used to stand in close proximity to it.
The style of the church is Catalan Gothic, but its doors boast of a Romanesque style. Travel on the square around the church and you will find it quite relaxing. There are small outdoor cafes where you can refresh yourself with food and snacks. The main façade is quiet sober apart from the pointed arch doorway that boasts of a Gothic statue of the Madonna.
Do not miss out the huge rose window over there. Step inside the doors and you will observe that the Santa Maria del Pi church boasts of a single and wide nave along with chapels underneath the buttresses. You will be fascinated by the pretty stained glass windows inside the church.
