Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya
If you are not tired after visiting various tourist spots of Barcelona and that you are no longer interested in traveling around the city any more. then you should not miss viewing the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya. This is a historical palace of the city and it also the home of the offices of the residency of the Presidency of the Government of Catalonia… an organization under which the autonomous community of Catalonia is politically organized.
Some of the most important Catalan official and political events like institutional visits, top-level meetings, presentations of medals and awards, etc take place at this venue.
While thins might not seem something worth seeing, you might change your mind after seeing the building which is one of the few medieval ones around in the city. This can be gauged by the historical fact that the initial building was purchased way back in the year 1400.
An extension to the same was made in the year 1416. Check out the Renaissance style façade on the side, which faces Placa de Sant Jaume. It was designed way back in the year 1596 by Pere Blai.
Later on, a number of buildings were purchased and integrated into the Palau de la Generalitat de Catalunya.
