Museu d Art Contemporani de Barcelona

According to history, there was a shortage of a permanent space in this city for contemporary artist to display their work. It can be justifiably said that the initial efforts for a permanent museum was started way back in the year 1959 by Alecandre Cirici Pellicer, an art critic. However, the city had to wait for nearly 25 years before the Barcelona City Council decided to get the task done.

Visit this museum and check out the permanent collection that dates back from the mid of the twentieth century onwards. The entire exhibits cover three periods of modern art which the first two covers the era from the forties to the seventies. The third period covers contemporary art.

Though the main collection focuses on the post-1945 Spanish and Catalan art, the work of some international artists are also exhibited in the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona. Do not miss viewing the museum’s library.
