Gràcia

If you have completed viewing Eixample district, just travel northwards to visit the Gràcia locality. Those who are conversant with the history of Barcelona and its neighborhoods will tell you that this locality originally had its own village that was set quite apart from the main city.

Nevertheless, this area got connected to Barcelona after Eixample was constructed, late in the nineteenth century. Once this happened, Gràcia lost its independent standing and became a district of Barcelona city. The difference of planning is quite apparent when one walks through the narrow lanes of this locality.

When you get some time off from exploring the quaint houses, check out the Park Guell, an awesome modernista playground by Antoni Gaudi who is also famous for his Casa Mila in the Eixample district. At the end of the day, unwind yourself by visiting any of the quaint bars and restaurants. You can also purchase your requirements and souvenirs from a number of lively plazas.

For the uninitiated, this district is one of the most popular for its shopping centers. Do check out the ornate street benches and lights. Be prepared to go back in history while you do so. They are a treat for the eye and were designed in the year 1906 by the famous architect Pere Falques i Urpi.
